DLSU-Dasma wins women's cage plum

The La Salle-Dasmarinas Lady Patriots stunned the Rizal Technological University Lady Thunder with their outside shooting, and came off with a 78-61 swamping yesterday (Wednesday, Feb. 3) to clinch the women’s crown of the 17th National Capital Region Athletic Association basketball tournament.

Information Technology junior Lalaine de Gomas fired a gamehigh 35 points for the Lady Patriots, who finished their best-of-three title series with the Lady Thunder with two wins and a loss at the Pasay City Sports Complex.

The five-foot-three de Gomas, who was adjudged as the most valuable player, made three of her four triples in the final period, enabling the Lady Thunder to move ahead by 18, 73-55, with still 4:33 left in this cagefest which is supported by Mikasa and Molten Balls.

They went full throttle in the second period, overcoming a 16-19 deficit, with de Gomas showing the way with 12 points as the Lady Patriots took charge with a 44-35 spread at halftime.

“This is our second NCRAA title since 2007. After three years, after we went on a rebuilding mode. Last summer, nag-champion kami sa national  PRISAA. So, this is a continuation of what we accomplished. We are fortunate to win the title again,” said Lady Patriots coach Tito Reyes.

Diane Gelisan contributed 12 points for the Lady Patriots, while Aika Ilustre had 25 for RTU.

The RTU Lady Thunder forced the deciding Game 3 after they won over the Lady Patriots, 76-74.
